Requirements for the MFA in Interactive Media (Games and Health)

The 2021 Games Expo was live-streamed over Twitch, and attendees who tuned in to the full day event watched trailers and demos of a diverse range of PC, console, and VR games. The program was founded in 2005 when the (now multi-billion-dollar) video game industry was starting to come into its own. Over the past decade, about 2,000 students have gone through the USC game design program. Game and interaction design are deeply dependent upon human-computer interaction and the ability to use research methods to improve player experience. Game user research is a critical aspect of game design and development that involves management of playtests and usability tests of the software, technology and rules. Games are a major cultural form, with game sales now exceeding box office revenue in the United States.

USC Games Demo Day—AGP

Let’s take a look at the most relevant programs, so you know what to expect from the curriculum. Candidates must complete general education requirements; see the General Education Program. Students who do not satisfy the degree requirement after repeating a class will be disqualified from the program. Core computer science courses with a grade of C- or below must be repeated; these courses may only be retaken once.

Game Development and Interactive Design (BFA)

Course examples for the program include 3D Modeling and Motion, Game Design, Tangible Media, Word + Image, and Video. The College of Computing & Informatics at Drexel University has several additional options for designers looking for programs that combine game development and computer science. Available pathways include BA and BS degrees in Computer Science (BAC, BSCS), and a 24 credit hour CS Minor.
